GAF Nailing Requirements
To maintain warranty coverage, GAF requires:
- Nail Type: Galvanized steel roofing nails (min 12-gauge shank, ~3/8" head)
- Penetration: ¾" into roof deck or fully through
- Number of Nails: 4 standard / 6 in high-wind areas
- Placement: Must hit the LayerLock nailing zone on Timberline shingles
Important: GAF's WindProven warranty requires 4 nails per shingle in the correct nailing zone. Improper nail placement is the #1 reason for warranty claim denials.
